You shouldn’t have salt in your water from a water softener. If you do, it is malfunctioning. Get out your manual and clean the head of the softener.

Any basic Britta pitcher should do the job. 3M also makes good ones. But if you can actually taste sodium in your tap water, there is something wrong with your softener.

UV light does heat the objects up that absorb it. Typically UV lights that are used for purifying water are low wattage so the amount the water will heat up will typically be negligable.

The wattage of your bulb will tell you how much heat it puts out. A watt is a joule/second.

Is the UV bulb on all the time?

If so, the bulb is probably warming the water as it sits in the irradiation chamber. Find the sterilizing unit, and put your hand on it; see if it’s warm, and then turn on the water. Feel for a temperature change as the water changes over.

I think you are hyperfocusing on your kidney….I’m sure the filter is doing its job. People don’t get stones from too much water.

i got a pur water filter to attach to my kitchen faucet and i wasnt impressed with it all! im sure it helped some but not enough for me to be pleased with it! maybe its just me! but i wouldnt recommend them personally.

I love my Pur water filter. I notice a definite difference in taste between regular water and water thats been through my faucet mounted filter. Don’t know about kidney stones though!

an RO/di unit typically consists of 4 stages (although configurations vary) the first usually is a particle filter that removes any foreign matter and ‘large’ particles then a carbon cartridge to remove chemicals including chlorinates and anything that cause taste or odour , then onto the RO membrane which forces water through a series of fine membranes which removes the majority of any remaining impurities this is the main purifying unit , then through the di unit which removes anything else that’s left and removes the ion charge from the water making it almost impossible for the water to suspend any particles ….. a brita filter is simply a carbon filter that takes taste and odour from the water and reduces chemicals however there isn’t as much carbon to travel through and once carbon is saturated it begins to release the impurities into the water , this is why cartridges need changing so often and they probably wouldn’t last long enough to fill the tank , also the filtration simply wouldn’t be purifying enough for saltwater aquariums .

no brita water for fish … even the brita company does not suggest it …

those brita filters, i don’t even think they are healthy for humans … i live where the water is barely treated and quite pure … i left a brita filter in the fridge filled with water and a brand new cartridge, i did not drink any of the water, and the funk growing in that brita container if a few months was beyond disgusting … i threw the whole thing out … even brita says do not drink brita water that is more than 2 days old !!!

why can’t you use tap water ??? i find some people are searching for the “best” water to use when the best is usually tap and dechlorinator … and my friend has a reverse osmosis filter and she was having her water checked at the fish store and was told to use tap water …

brita filters are just a filter and a carbon filter, they will not add anything to the water, but if it’s for a salt water tank, they might filter out the majority of the salt/minerals. but most of the brita filters will probably be exhausted much quicker then a tank filter and will work out more expensive.
