This product is fantastic! I had to take a trip to both China and India for business recently and having this product to purify the water in my hotel room gave me peace of mind. It’s also great to be able to “zap” water bottles to be sure the water inside is safe. I was on the road for 16 days and had zero stomach problems. My batteries lasted the whole trip (5 stops) and the smiling face on the LCD screen put a smile on my face, too. Great product and the perfect gift for anybody who travels.

I love the Steripen. I used it as directed and never got ill drinking dirty tap water within the back country of China.

We purchased this item and tested it once at home before going to China for 2 weeks. Seemed to work fine, but then it failed after our second use in China. We had brought a 2nd set of new batteries for backup, and these did not work at all. Had to find a 3rd set while in China, and these DID work with the SteriPEN, but I was constantly concerned that it would drain the batteries and fail again. We did not get sick, so I am fairly sure it is a good product in theory and it was easy to use, but if I ever needed to use one again, I would buy the Classic model even though it is heavier, because it uses traditional AA batteries and one could just take spare rechargeable ones with a wall recharger.

  4. This replaces my pump filter which weighed 11oz. yes there are lighter version of Steripen in the line-up, but i like that this one has the LCD display and the rubber neck so that it fits perfectly in off the shelf bottleded water bottles.

get the Streamlight battery 12 pack here on Amazon and never look back.

Don’t bother with the pre-filter, just use a coffee filter or bandanna.

I purchased this product from Amazon. It arrived seemingly in great condition. I bought it to take with me on a trip to India.

I decided to test the product once here at home prior to my trip. I was unable to complete a single purification round because the batteries that shipped with the product died! After less than a single use!

That’s when I first posted this review. I said: “Perhaps the company should take their own advice from the owner’s manual and “Note that if you will be storing your STeiPEN Journey for a long period of time, it is best to remove the batteries from the device.” It ships with the included batteries already in the device- which I assume (hope) contributed to their lack of power on arrival. I have ordered replacement batteries, at which time hopefully I can actually get to try out the device.”

Well, I DID get a new pair of CR123 batteries. And I tried again. And again, it failed to work, saying the batteries were dead. Perhaps I have a faulty SteriPEN that just doesn’t work at all? Perhaps SteriPEN just eats batteries. Unfortunately I have no other product that uses CR123 batteries, nor do I wish to spend more money buying a third set of batteries. Thumbs down so far from me.
