Just about any professional plumber will tell you; hard water issues can cause serious problems for your plumbing lines, fixtures and appliances, including your water heater. “Hard water” is water that contains a high concentration (>1000mg/L) of minerals; specifically magnesium and calcium. A large portion of the United States is located in the hard water zone which covers the area south of the Canadian border, east to the Mississippi River, west to the Rocky Mountains and as far south as the Rio Grande.
